Purchasing a Pack or Plan for Another Client | Walla Support Center
Learn how to use Walla's Account Balance feature to purchase a pack or plan on behalf of another client.
Sometimes a client wants to purchase a pack or plan as a gift for someone else. Because Walla doesn't have a built-in gift purchase flow, this can be handled through the Account Balance feature. The paying client's card is charged, the balance is moved to the recipient's account, and the recipient uses that balance to complete the purchase.
There are two scenarios: the purchaser is present in studio, or they are not.
Scenario A: Purchaser Is Not Present
Use this flow when the paying client is completing the transaction remotely, such as over the phone or via a chat session.
Before you begin: Confirm the purchaser has a card stored on their account. If they don't, ask them to add one via the Walla app or the booking widget before proceeding.
Step 1: Charge the purchaser's account
- Open the purchaser's client profile and navigate to the Overview tab.
- Scroll to the bottom right and select Adjust Balance.
- Choose Charge an amount to client account and enter the dollar amount that corresponds to the pack or plan being purchased.
- Once the balance has been added, select Pay Balance to charge the stored card on file.
Step 2: Issue a credit to the recipient's account
- Open the recipient's client profile and navigate to the Overview tab.
- Scroll to the bottom right and select Adjust Balance.
- Choose Issue a credit to client account and enter the same dollar amount.
Step 3: Complete the purchase under the recipient's account
- While still on the recipient's profile, select Actions > Buy a New Plan (or the applicable service/product).
- Proceed through checkout as usual.
- When prompted for payment, scroll past the card options and select Apply Account Credit.
- Do not adjust the credit amount unless the situation requires a partial payment.
- Complete the checkout.
Pro Tip: Clients with an account balance can also apply that balance themselves when purchasing through the Walla app or the booking widget. This is worth keeping in mind.
Note: Recurring memberships require a credit card for the initial payment — account credit alone will not satisfy this requirement, even when sufficient funds are available on the recipient's account. The recipient must have a card stored on their account before this purchase can be completed. Account credit can, however, be applied toward subsequent recurring payments once the membership is active. For more on how that works, click here.
Scenario B: Purchaser Is Present in Studio
If the person paying is at the studio and has their card with them, no account balance transfer is needed.
- Open the recipient's client profile.
- Select Actions > Buy a New Plan (or the applicable plan/pack type).
- Proceed through checkout and enter the purchaser's card directly at the payment step.
- Complete the checkout as normal.
No balance adjustments are required. The card is entered in the moment, the transaction completes, and the plan or pack is applied to the recipient's account.
Quick Reference
| Scenario | Method |
|---|---|
| Purchaser not present | Charge purchaser's stored card via Adjust Balance, issue credit to recipient, apply credit at checkout |
| Purchaser present in studio | Enter purchaser's card directly at checkout under the recipient's profile |
A few things to flag before you start this process:
- The purchaser must have a stored payment method to use the remote flow.
- The credit amount issued to the recipient should match the pack or plan price exactly unless a partial credit is intentional.
- Account balances issued this way are visible on the recipient's profile and can be used by the client independently going forward, so communicate clearly if the credit is intended for a specific purchase only.
