Buy Now, Pay Later (BNPL) FAQ

Answers to common questions about paying with Affirm and Klarna in Walla.

For businesses

What does BNPL cost?

Answer: 5.99% + $0.30 per transaction, for both Affirm and Klarna. The fee isn't returned if the purchase is refunded.

Can I pass the fee to clients with Dual Pricing?

Answer: No. Dual Pricing applies to credit cards, and BNPL isn't a card transaction.

Can I turn on just one provider?

Answer: No. One setting enables both, and clients choose the one they already use.

Can I sell memberships with BNPL?

Answer: No. Only one-time purchases with a fixed total qualify. Anything that auto-renews, even once at the end of its term, is excluded.

Can a client use BNPL for a $2,000 teacher training?

Answer: Yes, if the enrollment is paid in full rather than on a Walla payment plan.

Can a client pay part with a gift card or account balance?

Answer: No. BNPL must cover the full purchase.

Can my front desk help a client with the application?

Answer: No. Clients must apply on their own phone. Staff can't fill anything out or choose a plan, and doing so can end your BNPL access.

A client was declined. Can I find out why?

Answer: No. Providers don't share decline reasons. Offer another payment method; the sale is preserved.

How do refunds work?

Answer: Refunds go back to the provider, overriding your default refund method. They never become account balance or store credit, even if your policy is account balance only.

What happens in a dispute?

Answer: Disputes are handled in Stripe. Accept it or submit evidence; the provider decides, and any dispute fee is passed to your business.

Can I advertise that I offer BNPL?

Answer: Yes, but follow each provider's marketing guidelines. Don't name Affirm or Klarna in a text message without their written approval.

For clients

Why don't I see BNPL at checkout?

Answer: The studio may not offer it, your total may be outside the provider's limits, or the item isn't eligible. Memberships and anything that auto-renews can't be financed.

Why do I only see one provider?

Answer: Each provider has its own minimum. Affirm requires at least $50; Klarna has no minimum.

Will I pay interest?

Answer: It depends on the plan you choose. The provider shows your terms and schedule before you confirm.

Can I use BNPL at the front desk?

Answer: Yes. Scan the QR code on the card reader and complete the application on your own phone.

Is my spot held while I apply?

Answer: No. Your booking is confirmed once payment goes through.

Where does my refund go?

Answer: Back to the provider, never to studio credit. Where it lands from there depends on your provider account settings.

I got store credit from the studio. Do I still owe the provider?

Answer: Yes. Store credit doesn't cancel what you owe.

Who do I contact about my payment schedule?

Answer: The provider: Affirm help · Klarna help. The studio and Walla can't see or change it.
