Overview

Challenges let you create, run and track client challenges in Walla, so you don’t have to manage them with spreadsheets, sticker boards or printed bingo cards. It’s included with the Retention Suite.

Challenges is included with the Retention Suite. To get to Challenges:

👇 Follow these steps

  2. In the left navigation menu, click Retention Suite.

Challenge Types

Milestone
Clients work toward one or more attendance goals and earn a reward at each one. For example:

  • Attend 10 classes: earn 250 loyalty points
  • Attend 16 classes: earn another 250 points
  • Attend 24 classes: earn another 250 points

Leaderboard
Clients compete to complete the most qualifying classes or appointments during the Challenge. You choose how many places get a reward, and each place can have a different reward.

Bingo
Clients complete activities on a bingo card. Walla tracks some activities automatically, and you mark others complete. Examples include:

  • Attend a specific class type
  • Attend a morning or evening class
  • Visit a participating location
  • Bring a guest
  • Take a selfie with an instructor
  • Leave a Google review

One activity can complete more than one square when it applies.

  7. Set your enrollment settings, entry fee and enrollment bonus, if you’re using them.

☝️ Important: Only visits at the Challenge’s participating locations count toward progress.

☝️ Important: To give loyalty points as a reward or enrollment bonus, set up Loyalty first.

Enrollment

Enrollment is controlled separately from the Challenge dates. You can:

  • Open enrollment before the Challenge starts
  • Close enrollment before or during the Challenge
  • Keep enrollment open after the Challenge starts
  • Reopen enrollment before the Challenge ends

Enrollment closes automatically when the Challenge ends.

You can add clients to a Challenge from the front desk.

☝️ Important: If a client joins after the Challenge starts, only visits from the day they joined count toward their progress.

Enrollment bonus
You can give clients loyalty points for joining a Challenge. If a client is removed from the Challenge, they keep the bonus points. You can adjust their points from the Rewards tab on their client profile.

Entry fees

Entry fees aren’t collected automatically. If you charge a fee, collect the payment at the front desk when you enroll the client.

☝️ Important: Removing a client from a Challenge doesn’t refund their fee, and refunding the fee doesn’t remove them from the Challenge.

How progress is tracked

Walla tracks qualifying class and appointment check-ins during the Challenge dates.

  • Canceled and late-canceled visits don’t count.
  • More than one qualifying visit on the same day can count.
  • One visit can count toward more than one Challenge.
  • Clients can join more than one Challenge at a time.
  • Visits at locations outside the Challenge don’t count.
  • You can adjust a client’s progress for corrections or exceptions.
  • You mark bingo activities complete when Walla can’t track them automatically.

Editing a Challenge

  • Before it starts: You can edit everything.
  • Once it’s Live: You can only edit the name, teaser, description and end date. Everything else is locked so the rules don’t change for clients who’ve already joined.
  • After it ends: Settings can’t be changed.

⚡ Pro tip: To change a locked setting on a Live Challenge, end the Challenge and clone it.

Rewards

You can offer:

  • Loyalty points
  • Account credit
  • A manual reward, like a t-shirt or water bottle

Loyalty points and account credit are issued automatically after the Challenge ends. You hand out manual rewards yourself and can track which ones you’ve given out from the Challenge.

  • Milestone: Clients can earn a reward for each milestone they reach.
  • Leaderboard: Rewards are based on each client’s final place.

Challenge statuses

  • Upcoming: The Challenge hasn’t started.
  • Live: The Challenge is running.
  • Completed: The end date has passed.

When a Challenge ends:

  • New visits stop counting
  • Enrollment closes
  • Final progress is available
  • Loyalty points and account credit are issued
  • You can review winners and hand out manual rewards

Completed Challenges stay in Walla so you can look back at them.
