Can a Studio Keep Its Walla Website When Leaving Walla?

Studios cannot transfer their Walla-built website to another platform. However, they do own their website content and can request an asset export to rebuild the website elsewhere.

When a studio leaves Walla, a common question is whether they can take their website with them—especially if they paid for its design and development. The short answer is no, but there are some important details to consider.

Why can't a Walla Website be transferred to a different CRM or editor?

  • Any websites built within a CRM or website platform are typically not transferable to other systems. This is standard across the industry. For example, a website created on one platform (like Squarespace) cannot be moved to another (like Wix); it must be rebuilt from scratch. These platforms use proprietary structures, templates, and code that are not compatible with one another.

What website editor does Walla use?

  • The Walla Website platform utilizes the Duda editor engine. This allows us to build and develop custom websites, but with an editor "on top" to allow studios to edit and manage their own websites. Because of this, a Walla website can be transferred to a paid Duda account, but it cannot be migrated to any other platforms such as Squarespace, WordPress, Wix, GoDaddy, or similar website builders.

That said, studios do retain ownership of their website content. This includes text, images, and other assets. Upon request, Walla can provide an HTML export of these materials. Studios are free to work with a developer to rebuild their website on a new platform of their choosing using those assets.

In summary, while a Walla Website cannot be transferred outside of the Walla or Duda platforms, the content and design can be reused for future development elsewhere. Studios have the right to their own content and are welcome to recreate their Walla-designed website on a different platform.
