Migrating Payment Methods

What to Know When Migrating Credit Cards to Walla via Stripe

Updated over a year ago

At Walla, we’re all about making your studio’s transition as smooth and stress-free as possible. When it comes to transferring your clients’ credit card information into Walla, there’s a bit of behind-the-scenes magic involved—especially since all payments in Walla run through Stripe. Whether you’re switching from another platform or moving your own Stripe account, we’ve got you covered with everything you need to know to keep the good vibes (and auto-payments!) flowing.

💳 Step One: Know Your Migration Type

Before anything else, it’s essential to confirm the type of migration you’re doing:

  • Stripe-to-Stripe Migration: This means you’re migrating data from your own Stripe account with you to your new Walla Stripe Account —maybe it’s one you’ve been using for your studio independently (or through your software like Momence or MarianaTek).

  • Third-Party Migration: This is when your Stripe account is tied to your previous software provider (like Mindbody or Paragon, or WellnessLiving).

Knowing the difference helps us set you up for success from day one!

🔐 How Payment Method Transfers Work

Stripe keeps customer payment data locked down for privacy and security. That’s a good thing—but it also means:

  • We can only transfer credit cards that are linked to customer emails.

  • Apple Pay, Google Pay, or other payment options won’t be included in the migration.

  • If there are issues like duplicate emails, typos, or shared accounts, it could affect the accuracy of the transfer.

  • 🎯 Pro Tip: Review your client list and clean up any email inconsistencies before migration day!

🧩 Stripe-to-Stripe Migration: Quick & Clean

  • If you’re doing a Stripe-to-Stripe transfer, timing is everything!

  • Your payment data must be migrated on the day you switch to Walla.

  • Walla will begin processing payments the very next day, so everything needs to be in place to avoid disruption!

🔄 Third-Party Migration: A Little More Prep Required

Migrating from another payment processor? No problem—we’ve done it many times before. Here’s how it works:

  • We’ll need your current software rep’s contact info so we can securely request your payment data via PGP encryption (fancy, secure tech stuff).

  • There’s a minimum 1-week billing adjustment period after your migration.

  • Your first payments in Walla will begin 7 days after your migration date unless discussed with your migration rep.

  • Just remember, what we can bring over depends on what your old system has stored.

🚨 What If a Client’s Payment Info Doesn’t Transfer?

Hey, it happens. Here’s how to handle it:

  • Double-check upcoming auto payments so there are no surprises.

  • If a client has a membership but no card on file, the fastest fix is for them to re-enter their payment info directly through Walla (or you can do it manually if needed).
