Understanding your credit card migration

In this article we will walk you through the credit card migration experience and what to expect.

Updated over 8 months ago

In this article we cover authentication, data import, and adding credit cards to client profiles. We also cover common migration issues and how they are addressed to ensure a smooth transition.

The Credit Card Migration Timeline

Step 1: Start Migration

Begin the process by initiating credit card migration with your previous platform or payment processor.

Step 2: Provide Mapping File to Stripe

Two days before migration, your old payment processor submits the encrypted mapping file to Stripe. Allow up to 14 business days for Stripe to authenticate the mapping file.

Step 3: Authentication Completion

Once the mapping file is authenticated, the credit card information is ready for the next steps.

Step 4: Import to Stripe and Sync with Walla

The Walla Data Migrations team imports the credit card information into Stripe and syncs the imported data with Walla to ensure it is seamlessly integrated.

Step 5: Update Client Profiles in Walla

Finally, the Walla Data Migrations team adds the migrated credit card details to the respective client profiles in Walla.

Credit Card Migration Initiation Timeliness ⏲️

The export of your current credit card data should be supplied to Walla no more than 2 days prior to your migration date to avoid missing credit card data from new clients. Stripe estimates up to 10- 14 business days to authenticate import your data, however, the time to import will vary based on the amount of records you'd like to import and whether any tooling updates are required to process the data we receive.

You are responsible for initiating the migration of credit card information with your previous platform and/or payment processor. If you do not initiate the credit card migration in a timely manner clients will not have credit cards stored under their profile.

Common Credit Card Migration Issues

  • If a client’s card is expired in your previous software, it will not migrate over.

  • There are is no email addresses associated with the customer’s credit card.

  • If there are multiple Stripe Customer Objects (Stripe Records) in your previous software (same emails and different records), one object may not contain a credit card. Walla cannot distinguish which record Stripe will automatically sync with us.

Identify Clients Without Credit Cards

Once your credit cards are sync’d within Walla, your Data Migration Rep will provide you with

  • A list of client’s credit cards that didn’t migrate over

  • A list clients who have a recurring plan and no credit card

  • A list of upcoming recurring plan payments

Migrating Recurring Payments (auto-pays)

  • Walla accommodates billing your recurring plans (auto-pays) from your previous software with the Migrated Recurring Plan Billing Adjustment.

Credit Card Migration Limitations and Considerations

When transferring your credit card data from your previous software to Stripe through Walla, there are certain factors to keep in mind. If you opt not to migrate credit card information, your clients will be required to manually input new payment methods when their profiles are created in Walla. Importing credit cards depends on your current payment processor's ability to provide an encrypted mapping file.
