Migrating software is no small task, especially for small business owners who are wearing many hats. In the transition, you’ll need to wear a Project Manager hat to ensure tasks are completed and deadlines are met. After migrating over 300 businesses to Walla, here are our best tips to make this transition as seamless as possible.
☀️ Have a positive attitude! It might sound silly but overwhelm and stress do not lend to a successful migration. There are lots of moving pieces and we’ve found that the more positive and optimistic the project manager, the more likely their migration will be successful.
When you get overwhelmed or feeling bogged down by the to-dos of migration, try to remember the trade off, a more user-friendly experience for you, easier booking for your clients and quicker training for your staff!
🤓 Do your homework. A lot of transition issues boil down to Project Managers not following instructions. Walla Onboarding boils down the tasks for migration into bite size and manageable pieces so you can spend about 30 minutes a day (over a 4-6 week period) working on the transition.
🛜 Know your bandwidth. While many businesses make the transition quickly and can be ready to go in under a month, if it is a particularly busy time for your business or you have little ones at home (both human and fur), give yourself plenty of space to complete migration tasks and reduce pressure. Many project managers find 6-8 weeks more comfortable for transition.
🤝 Ask for help. If completing all the transition tasks on your own is feeling daunting, consider asking for help. This can be in the form of assigning out tasks to front desk staff or an admin who works at the studio or hiring someone who specializes in project management for the transition.
